Fire impacted residents from across the Wollondilly and Wingecarribee regions were provided with additional financial support thanks to the Global Empowerment Mission – Bstrong who visited the area last week.
The American visitors handed out $1,000 to local residents who had lost homes and $500 to people impacted by the Green Wattle Creek and Moreton fires.
A total of $44,000 was distributed by Michael and Zoe Capponi after donations were received from people in the USA reaching out to assist fire impacted residents in Australia.
Wollondilly Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “We were very fortunate that our region was selected by the Mission to receive these funds. Residents were clearly overwhelmed by the generosity of complete strangers in the USA.”
“America has provided amazing support to our country during the bushfire emergency, including fire crews and planes as well as valuable financial support.”
The funds were distributed at the Community Hub at the Balmoral Hall on Wednesday 4 March 2020.
