Council Regional Council farewelled two Councillors today.
Division 8 Cr Jessie Richardson and Division 6 Cr Linda Cooper will not contest the Local Government Election on 28 March.
At todays’ meeting, Mayor Bob Manning formally acknowledged the service of the two retiring Councillors and thanked them for their contribution to Cairns community.
Cr Cooper first came to office in 2008 and has represented Council on a number of boards and committees including:
Chair of the Finance and Administration Committee, which later became known as the Governance Committee.Chair of the Cultural Services CommitteeRepresentative on the Cairns Regional Gallery board, andMember of the Public Art Advisory Committee.She also championed projects like the Adventure Playground at Goomboora Park and the Redlynch Sport and Recreation Parkland Master Plan Project.
Cr Cooper is retiring from Council to contest the State Election as the LNP candidate in Barron River.
First elected to Council in 2012, Cr Richardson has overseen extensive improvements to the foreshores of Holloways Beach, Yorkeys Knob and Machans Beach including renewing the seawall.
She also campaigned for upgrades at Cattana Wetlands, improvements to Barron Waters at Lake Placid, and vast improvements to O’Brien’s Road at Smithfield.
Cr Richardson has represented Council as a member of the Governance, Cultural, and Community Services Committees, on the Cairns Regional Gallery Board, and as a member of the North Queensland Games Foundation.
She has also held the role of Chair of the Independent Rate Relief Tribunal for the past eight years.
