New economic initiatives and recovery support for businesses announced

Blue Mountains City Council is continuing to roll out a range of economic initiatives, aimed at helping local businesses through the recovery period following the recent bush fires.

Council is working with industry leaders to ensure all local businesses have access to practical support, as well as the financial assistance already announced.

Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “Our community and our businesses have lived through this before, and what we’ve learnt is that while financial assistance is crucial, it isn’t the whole picture.

“Building resilience and providing practical support and opportunities, especially for our local businesses, is just as important, and that’s what our Economic Development team are working on.”

Council is partnering with Women with Altitude to bring the ‘Small Business Conference – Plan. Nurture. Grow.’ to the Blue Mountains in March. This is a recovery stream exclusively to Blue Mountains businesses. 

As part of the Altitude Small Business Conference, Council is sponsoring a session entitled Building Disaster Resilient Businesses and local businesses are welcome to register for this session only, which is being held on Friday 13 March. Council is hosting a range of free workshops available to all local Blue Mountains businesses, throughout the year. They are designed to help businesses develop a strong and resilient base for boosting business and future opportunities.

Council is also currently undertaking a review of our Economic Development and Tourism arrangements and has engaged an independent consultant for this purpose. The consultant is now seeking input from local businesses, which can be done on Council’s Have Your Say webpage. Responses will be received until Sunday, 15 March.
