The recent NSW Seniors Festival events in Bellingen Shire were a great success with events taking place at Dorrigo and Mylestom that attracted more than 100 seniors from all areas of the Shire.
More than 90 seniors came along to North Beach Bowling Club to enjoy a day of entertainment, guest speakers and refreshments.
Guest speakers included Chris Bryant, Community Engagement Officer with the Rural Fire Service who spoke about emergency preparedness and several representatives from the Mid North Coast Local Health District spoke about navigating the aged care system, falls prevention and strategies for improving your mental health.
Entertainment was also provided by Ron Foster, Nomad the Magician and the Sawtell Ukulele group who rounded off the afternoon with an Elton John medley.
At Dorrigo Library, local pre-school children listened to stories that were read to them by seniors from the community and enjoyed a morning tea and the morning was rounded off by a dramatic rendition of The Gruffalo.
Bellingen Shire Mayor, Cr Dominic King, said that intergenerational events have proven to be very popular in Dorrigo where the old and the young can share their love of reading and books.
“It’s important that as a community we acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by our older people and it’s by sharing their wisdom and learning from their experiences that we can help shape a better community for everybody.”
Many thanks to everyone who participated and made the events possible.
