Every year we celebrate the women of our community on International Women’s Day. It is a day to reflect on how far we have come as a society to improve the lives of women around the world and to consider how we can continue to positively impact the lives of women in our community.
On Saturday March 7 over 70 women gathered for Council’s International Women’s Day event “Raise your Voice”. It was a day of celebration, singing together and learning from each other. Communal singing is renowned for its positive health benefits and the act of joining together to raise our voices builds connection and solidarity for the women of our region.
The day was led by our two guest facilitators; Kate Swadling and Trish Watts both locally and nationally recognized leaders in their field. A fabulous day of singing, laughter, sharing our lives and stories was had as well as a special performance by the women of Richmond’s WomanSong choir.
