COVID-19: City of Parramatta response

The safety of City of Parramatta’s residents, visitors, students, workers and staff is our top priority, and Council is increasing measures at its public facilities to help prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the community.

Monitoring developments

Council is closely following the advice of federal and state health authorities with regards to the virus. At this stage, they have advised that the risk of community spread of the virus is low.

We are monitoring the situation and assessing any potential impact on City services and events on a daily basis. We will keep the community updated if the situation changes.

Our facilities and services

At this stage, all of our facilities and services are operating as normal based on the advice of NSW Heath. 

Arrangements are being made to increase our cleaning regime at our facilities and Council is considering a range of other measures, including the installation of additional hand sanitiser stations and signs to inform and help protect the public. If any of our facilities or services are impacted, Council will provide regular updates.

Public events

Council is currently reviewing its schedule of events in light of the announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday 13 March that any organised, non-essential gatherings of 500 people or greater, should be cancelled beginning from Monday 16 March.

Our staff

City of Parramatta Council staff who have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or spent time in or transited through China, Iran, Italy or South Korea in the past 14 days have been advised to self-isolate for 14 days.

All staff have been reminded to practice good hygiene by coughing or sneezing into a tissue or flexed elbow, washing their hands thoroughly, and using alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
