Yass Valley Council will provide almost $14,000 in financial assistance to four community organisations under the first round of this year’s Community Grants Program.
In addition, funds will be allocated to a workshop where members of local community organisations will be guided in writing grant applications. The workshop will be held on Thursday, 2 April 2020, in the Council Chambers. Following the workshop, Council will open a second round of Community Grants applications.
Grants made under the Program are for projects or initiatives, which contribute to the achievement of one or more of eight identified strategies of the Regional Community Strategic Plan 2016-2036.
“Yass Valley Council is committed to supporting local organisations. Grants programs are a way to provide financial assistance to help community organisations continue their worthwhile and generous work in the Yass Valley,” said Mayor Rowena Abbey.
The following four community organisations have been funded in the first round of this year’s program:
Wee Jasper Community Association - $4,000 for sanding and sealing of the Wee Jasper Hall dance floor and kitchen floor. Yass Pony Club - $4,000 for the purchase of portable show-jumps and a trailer. Murrumbateman Landcare Group - $3,200 for an ecological survey of the Murrumbateman Bush Cemetery, signs showing images of flora and fauna found in the cemetery and small scale re-seeding of areas in the cemetery. Yass Railway Heritage Centre - $2,600 for the construction of a replacement roof for a display locomotive.Council’s General Manager, Chris Berry, thanked all applicants for taking the time to submit detailed submissions.
“Unfortunately, we did not get many applications this time around and, as a result, Council has decided to hold a grants application writing workshop to help community organisations with future applications. Following that, we will open up a second round of the 2019/2020 Community Grants Program to allow more organisations to apply.”
The workshop, which will be facilitated by The Grants Guy, Keith Whelan, will run for three hours in the Council Chambers, starting at 6pm on Thursday, 2 April. It will encourage participants to develop, direct and edit creative ideas in addition to giving an invaluable guidance on how to present funding submissions. It is ideal for those new to writing grant applications.
RSVP is essential by Tuesday, 24 March 2020, via email to [email protected] or phone 6226 1477.
