Animal registration renewals due 10 April 2020

Published on 16 March 2020

Dog and cat owners have received their animal registration renewal notices in the mail, and are reminded to ensure their animal registration payment is made by Friday, 10 April 2020.

Animal registration is required under the Domestic Animals Act 1994. All dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered with Council and microchipped.

“Registering and microchipping pets that are three months of age and older provides some security for pet owners should their dogs or cats become lost,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Owners receive reduced registration fees if their pet is aged over 10 years, a dog kept for working stock, registered with an applicable organisation or desexed, which also prevents unwanted breeding.

“An additional discount applies if the owner currently holds an eligible pension card”.

Payment can be made in person at Council’s Customer Service Centres, by cheque or money order mailed to Council, over the phone by phoning (03) 5450 9333 or online via BPAY. A separate BPAY payment is required per animal.

“If you have paid your animal registration in the past few days and believe you are entitled to a pension card discount, please visit one of Council’s Customer Service Centres in either Kerang or Cohuna with your proof of payment and present your pensioner card so that a refund can be processed,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“Payment of an amount different to that shown on the notice must be paid in person at Council’s Customer Service Centres.”
