Colac Otway Shire Council’s Ordinary Council Meeting at Apollo Bay next week will be open to the public however people are encouraged to consider whether it is essential for them to attend.
Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Brown confirmed that the OCM at Apollo Bay Senior Citizens’ Centre would start at 4pm.
“However, we are encouraging people to submit questions to Council in writing by 5pm Monday 23 March, and while the question will not be read out at the meeting, a written response will be provided directly to community members.
“Colac Otway Shire Council is following advice from the State and Federal Governments in regard to reducing the spread of COVID-19 and is implementing social distancing as a preventative measure.
“Seating will be spaced out at the Apollo Bay Senior Citizens Centre for the Council meeting, which will significantly limit the room’s capacity.
“Council meetings are fundamental in our decision making and next week’s meeting will be held, in accordance with the meeting schedule, as adopted by Council.
“However, the health of the Councillors, community and staff must be our priority and seating will be limited.
“On this basis we request people consider not attending.”
