Council to help supermarkets fast track supply to shelves

Wollondilly Council is looking at ways to enable deliveries to local supermarkets outside of the usual delivery hours to help minimise supply delays for essential grocery items. Suggestions by Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt that there may be some barriers to keeping shelves stocked due to local government curfews around supermarket supply trucks have concerned the council. Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “Now that we have become aware that curfews could be contributing to the current shortages in the aisles we can use emergency provisions to allow the extension of truck movements.” “Council would like to resolve this issue as soon as we can and the relaxing of curfews is definitely something we can implement.” “Our compliance policy allows discretion in extraordinary circumstances. This means we can allow deliveries outside of normal hours while we deal with the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.” “It is important that everyone stays calm in these uncertain times and as a community we continue to look after one another.
