As we are all acutely aware, the COVID-19 virus impact has well and truly reached our shores.
The safety of the Southern Midlands community, our customers and staff is our top priority and we are continuing to monitor developments relating to the Covid-19 Pandemic daily.
Rest assured that Council is currently reviewing its business continuity plans and implementing strategies to achieve normal service levels during this period of uncertainty.
As part of our business planning, we are seeking to reduce the risks of any person to person transfer. The Southern Midlands Council is therefore implementing social distancing practices; and where possible, we are requesting that members of the public contact us by phone or email rather than coming into the council chambers. (Please note that the phone systems are currently experiencing increased traffic which is resulting in congestion of the network. We respectfully ask that people be patient).
In terms of direct impact to date, the Southern Midlands Council has made a decision to close the Oatlands Swimming Pool effective from Wednesday, 18th March 2020. The decision to close the facility 11 days in advance of the normal closure date, recognises the concerns around the spread of coronavirus.
Council initiated events and programs such as the ANZAC Day Service, School Holiday Programs, Community Walks and the Heritage & Bullock Festival have been cancelled and other events will be reviewed in accordance with government directions on the size of the gatherings.
Please note that these are precautionary measures which are aimed at protecting staff, members of the community and visitors.
Please remain vigilant and stay safe.
Best regards
Clr Alex Green MAYOR
