In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maroondah City Council is taking action to contain the spread of the virus and reduce the risk to the health of our community, including implementing our Pandemic Plan and Business Continuity Management Plans.

Earlier this week the Victorian Government declared a State of Emergency for the next four weeks. The Government has banned all non-essential indoor gatherings of more than 100 people and outdoor gatherings of more than 500 people. It was also recommended that all Victorians avoid any non-essential gathering of any size.

The bans being implemented across the state are important to slow the spread of infection and reduce the impact on our hospitals and health services.

For this reason, Council has made the decision to cancel our community events, workshops and activities until the end of April.

Events/activities cancelled Ringwood Carnival Karralyka theatre shows and Toe Tapping Tuesday events Library programs Arts workshops Waste and other educational workshops. Council facilities - temporary closures

Council has also decided that from the close of business on Friday 20 March until Tuesday 14 April, the below Council facilities will be closed:

Aquanation (entire facility) Aquahub (entire facility) Maroondah Nets (entire facility) Maroondah Rings (entire facility) Croydon Memorial Pool (season closed early) Croydon Library (including Council’s Customer Service counter) Realm (Library/Level 1 and Level 2). Not all Council facilities will be impacted. The below facilities and services will continue to operate:

Our customer service centres at Braeside Avenue and Realm will remain open, however we encourage customers to use our extensive range of online services for information and payments, or phone us on 1300 88 22 33.

If you do need to attend one of Councils’ service centres, please only do so if you are well, and please be respectful of maintaining a distance of 1.5 metres from our customer service team members.

This is the biggest public health challenge the Maroondah community has ever faced, and we are committed to supporting all residents during these testing times. Council will continue to monitor the situation and will follow advice from authorities on how best to slow the spread of this disease.

We will keep the community updated as the situation unfolds. In the meantime, you can stay informed and learn more about the virus via the official government channels below.
