City of Fremantle services update

During this unprecedented time with COVID-19, the City of Fremantle is working to ensure a majority of services are maintained.

The safety of the community remains the highest priority and to reduce the risk of spread of the virus the City is taking the precautionary measure of temporarily closing some of its facilities.

Walyalup Aboriginal Culture Centre, Wanjoo Lounge and Freo Toy Library have now been closed to the public. Fremantle Leisure Centre will be closed to the public from the close of business today. Fremantle Arts Centre (galleries, shop and reception), Samson Recreation Centre, The Meeting Place and Fremantle Visitor Centre will be closed to the public as of Monday 23 March. Moores Building Contemporary Art will be closed as of Monday 23 March. Fremantle Community Legal Centre will continue to operate by providing services over the phone.

While Fremantle Arts Centre will be closed to the general public as of Monday, the grounds will remain open for the public to enjoy and Canvas Café will remain open until further notice.

City staff are exploring other ways that the services can be accessed by other means.

For example, a virtual tour of the Revealed Exhibition will be available online and works will be available for sale on line as well.

Fremantle Arts Centre is also exploring opportunities to assist the sector by offering programming and sales opportunities.

City of Fremantle Chief Executive Officer Philip St John said while it was regrettable to have to close some facilities it was also necessary to put our community’s safety first.

The City will continue to monitor its service levels and updates will be available at fremantle.wa.gov.au
