The City of Parramatta is publicly exhibiting the Draft Hunters Hill Lane Cove Parramatta Ryde Bushfire Risk Management Plan 2019-2024.
As a result of the 2016 Premiers Proclamation regarding NSW Council amalgamations the boundaries of the City of Parramatta were changed to include some lands previously located within Hornsby Council, Ryde Council and Baulkham Hills Council. Many of these lands included bushland areas that contained Bushfire Prone Lands, and as a result a new Bushfire Management Committee was formed to reflect these boundary changes. The Hunters Hill Lane Cove Parramatta Ryde Bushfire Management Committee (BFMC), as a requirement under Section 52 of the Rural Fires Act, must prepare a five year Bushfire Risk Management Plan (BFRM Plan) for the Local Government Areas (LGA) that the new Committee oversees.
The Hunters Hill Lane Cove Parramatta Ryde BFMC has drafted a proposed new five year BFRM Plan for the LGA’s. The Plan identifies assets that have the potential to be exposed to the impact of bushfires, and also assigns specific mitigation strategies to reduce the vulnerability to those assets.
These strategies can include hazard reduction fuel management, community education and engagement, creation and maintenance of asset protection zones, management of public access and restrictions on the use of bushland areas during extreme bushfire danger days.
Under Section 62 of the Rural Fires Act a Draft BFRM Plan must be publicly advertised for 42 days prior to being endorsed by the BFMC.
A hard copy of the Draft Hunters Hill Lane Cove Parramatta Ryde BFRM Plan is also on display at Council’s Customer Services Centre 126 Church Street Parramatta.
