We understand the heightened levels of anxiety and concern that the situation regarding the US Tourists who have tested positive for COVID-19 may bring about.
We would like to reiterate, that because this an organised tour group with a fixed itinerary, SA Health has been able to readily identify the locations that they have visited. The small number of cellar doors and restaurants who hosted the group have already been, and will ongoingly be, contacted and supported by SA Health.
If you are concerned that you may have visited these cellar doors and restaurants, we would like to reassure you with the following information as supplied by SA Health and the National Coronavirus Hotline: Close contact is defined as: • Greater than 15 minutes of close (less than 1.5m) face-to-face contact with an infected person • Sharing a confined space (i.e. seated at the same table or in a small room) for greater than 2 hours
Given that all businesses are currently employing thorough cleaning, sanitation and hand-washing practices, standard service is not considered to be high risk
There is currently NO recommendation from SA Health to close businesses which this group has visited, nor to avoid patronage.
Self-isolation Is recommended only if a person who came into direct contact with an infected person develops symptoms, in which case they should immediately self-isolated and seek Doctor’s advice regarding testing In this instance, and in the future, If you require clarification as to whether you, your fellow staff members, family or contacts need to self-isolate, please contact SA Health for their direction.
Excerpts from the SA Health’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Nicola Spurrier’s press conference today (Saturday 21 March 2020) include: • “There is absolutely no need for people of Barossa to be overly concerned’ • “Be calm and patient while (SA Health) works through the details. Anybody who is considered to be a close contact will be individually contacted.’ • “If there is any risk of anybody (in the general public) being a close contact we would make that information available publicly as we do with plane details”
