Council is closely monitoring the current COVID-19 pandemic and implementing responses in accordance with Federal and State Government guidelines. It is the intent of Council to take appropriate precautions in a reasonable manner to ensure that the potential and actual risks relating to the transmission of the COVID-19 virus are managed effectively, efficiently and transparently.
At this time, Council is undertaking a series of Event Risk Evaluations in accordance with Federal and State Government Guidelines; for all events hosted at Isaac Regional Facilities The evaluations are undertaken to determine the level of capacity to manage the identified risks and to remain compliant with Government guidelines and in particular; social distancing and sanitisation. This further extends to compliance with Federal Government directions from the Prime Minister.
As you might be aware, the Prime Minister addressed the Nation during the evening of 22 March, 2020 and indicated that all gymnasiums will be closed from midday 23 March, 2020. Council acknowledges that a specific reference was made to the exemption of "isolated remote community hubs", however, given the nature of this region and movements of large numbers of personnel; this exemption will not apply.
At 12 midday, Monday 23 March, 2020, gymnasiums in Council owned properties at Glenden, Dysart and Nebo will be the subject of closure for an indefinite period of time.
Council recognises that these steps are unfortunate and may cause some level of inconvenience, however, the decision to suspend these events indefinitely has not been taken lightly and is implemented in accordance with current Federal and State Guidelines and in the interests of the health and well-being of our residents.
Please direct all enquiries to Bruce Wright Manager, Community Facilities at [email protected] or alternatively, 1300 472 227.
Council would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and thank the community for their understanding at this time.
