Borrowers click and collect to slow corona

The shire’s borrowers will be using a new ‘click and collect’ service as Eurobodalla’s libraries implement additional social distancing measures this week.

From Thursday 27 March, the Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma libraries will suspend normal operations and customers will need to reserve items they wish to borrow – either online or by phone – before arriving to collect them.

Libraries coordinator Sam Fenton said the measures would be implemented to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect the entire community.

“There will be no general browsing and that’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly. Our libraries are much loved spaces but we have a duty of care to implement additional social distancing for the safety of patrons and staff,” Ms Fenton said.

She said library members could reserve items by using the online catalogue, sending an email or phoning through to library staff.

“Once items are reserved, our staff will be in touch to advise when items are ready for collection,” Ms Fenton said.

“For those unable to access the online catalogue, we’re more than happy to help select suitable books and other items.

“Items can be returned anytime using the after-hours returns boxes at each library and, during the closure period, we’ll automatically renew loans for an additional four weeks to help those unable to get to the library by the due date. Returned items are quarantined for 72 hours and their covers disinfected before being returned to shelves for re-borrowing.”

Ms Fenton said all regular library events had been postponed until further notice.

“We’ve attempted to contact all event attendees by phone and email, to let them know. Other library services unavailable until further notice include public access to computers, printing and scanning, loans of toys and puzzles, group and individual study, meeting rooms, and newspapers.”

She said similar measures had been enacted in libraries across NSW.

“Don’t forget we still have extensive online resources available for members, including eBooks, eMagazines and eAudio. Library membership is free to shire residents,” Ms Fenton said.
