Western Downs Regional Council has implemented a range of new public safety measures at the Dalby Saleyards to ensure the facility can continue providing a vital service to the community.
Council is working with local agents to minimise the number of people attending the Dalby Saleyards and has implemented a range of new restrictions to ensure the safety of agents, buyers, staff and the wider community – in accordance with State and Federal Government health advice.
Council’s Chief Executive Officer Ross Musgrove said the Dalby Saleyards remained open for business, but strict regulations must be practised by anyone attending the facility.
“The Saleyards provide an essential service to the Australian beef industry and it’s vital we ensure our service to the market is maintained,” Mr Musgrove said.
“Protecting the safety of our community is Council’s top priority and in line with health advice, we are implementing a range of measures to ensure the Saleyards can continue its vital service to the nation’s food supply chain.
“While we continue to welcome active buyers to the facility, we have zero tolerance for people ignoring the restrictions in place and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to reduce the spread of Coronavirus together.
“In addition to this, anyone who is feeling unwell is urged to stay home and contact their GP.”
Landmark Livestock Manager Brock Simpkins said the Dalby Combined Livestock Agents Association was fully supportive of the measures implemented.
“After extensive consultation with stakeholders and Council, we believe this is the best way forward to ensure full complement of professional buyers are present every week in the Dalby Saleyards,” Mr Simpkins said.
In accordance with State and Federal Government health advice, the following restrictions are now in place at the Dalby Saleyards on sale days:
Only one entry point to the site A declaration form must be completed and signed on entry Only essential persons which is strictly limited to Council staff, canteen staff, agents, contractors, registered or private buyers and transporters are permitted entry All attendees are required to wear gloves Social distancing of 1.5 metres between persons applies in all circumstances No children permitted at the facility on sale daysHand sanitiser will be provided at key locations across the facility and the canteen will only be operational for takeaway food and drink.
