Helping Grow Local Jobs

Coffs Harbour is a growing regional city with many characteristics that make living here increasingly attractive. The latest chapter of the draft Coffs Harbour Local Growth Management Strategy to be released for public comment – Chapter 8 Employment Lands – aims to enhance and build on these qualities to help grow local jobs.

“The current situation we’re all living through underlines just how important it is to plan for economic recovery, encourage business growth and protect the long-term supply of industrial and business land uses,” said Chris Chapman, Council’s Director Sustainable Communities.

“Draft Chapter 8 Employment Lands of the Coffs Harbour Local Growth Management Strategy provides a 20-year view of how to manage, facilitate and accommodate a range of future employment lands within the Coffs Harbour local government area.”

In the draft Chapter, Employment Lands refers to land that is predominantly used for retail, commercial, business, office, or industrial activities that result in employment.

The document proposes actions and planning controls to help with renewal of employment lands, attract new business and industry investment and enhance job growth.

It considers options to prioritise the long-term supply of industrial land, reinforce distinct areas for economic development, invest in strategic transport connections and undertake renewal activities within business and commercial areas.

Council is now seeking public feedback on draft Chapter 8 Employment Lands until June 17 2020.
