Animal registrations due this week

Published on 06 April 2020

Gannawarra Shire residents are reminded that animal registration renewals are due on Friday, 10 April 2020.

Animal registration is required under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and all dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered with Council and microchipped.

“Registering your animal is one way to ensure you are a responsible pet owner,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Registration fees ensure nuisance complaints, welfare issues and attacks by animals can be investigated.”

Owners receive reduced registration fees if their pet is aged over 10 years, a dog kept for working stock, registered with an applicable organisation or desexed, which also prevents unwanted breeding.

An additional discount applies to those who hold an eligible pension card.

“If you are entitled to a pension concession card discount, please contact Council’s Customer Service team on (03) 5450 9333 and quote your concessions card number,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“If you are having difficulty paying your animal registration renewal, whether that be due to financial circumstances or not being able to attend either of our Customer Service Centres, please contact Council.”
