Despite an incredibly tough year, Eurobodalla businesses are jumping into a new water-saving initiative that is also saving them money.
The Save Water Save Money program supplies commercial sites with targeted water-efficient devices. Eurobodalla Council’s water efficiency officer Ciska White said simple actions, like fitting flow restrictions on taps, was paying big dividends.
“We trialled the program last year and now we’re rolling it out to businesses across the shire,” Ms White said.
“Save Water Save Money helps curb water consumption, which helps secure Eurobodalla’s long-term water supply. In the current climate this is more important than ever. With our local businesses doing it tough we are thrilled to see such enthusiasm from owners and managers.”
Ms White said Council’s sustainability team has been conducting site audits at businesses across the shire.
“We install water efficient flow restrictors on taps on the spot. In high traffic areas such as public bathrooms, the water savings can really add up,” she said.
“We also arrange for plumbers to install devices such as showerheads, and pre-rinse and spray nozzles for free – so businesses save on both installation and ongoing costs. That’s a win-win and now could be the perfect time for businesses currently closed to the public to have such devices installed while their sites are empty.”
Ms White said Save Water Save Money was part of Council’s ongoing plans to bring down water use in Eurobodalla.
