Additional booked waste services during COVID-19, including green waste pick up

Blue Mountains City Council is increasing booked bulky waste services, to assist the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An additional two booked waste services are available for free, until further notice, even if residents have already used their two free booked services in the 2019-2020 financial year.
The booked bulky waste service will be extended to also collect green waste from households during this period.
Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “The Council is increasing kerbside booked waste services for our community during this period, given we must restrict our movement and stay at home as much as possible.
“To meet the needs of our community, we have reduced waiting times for booked waste services from eight weeks, down to 2-4 weeks for all parts of the City.”
Blaxland Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility was temporarily closed to visits from the general public from Wednesday 1 April 2020, due to COVID-19.
This was prompted by the Public Health Order, issued by the NSW Government on 30 March that restricted movement, and follows the closure of Katoomba Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility on 24 March.
Blaxland Resource Recovery and Waste Management Facility is still open to Council’s domestic waste collection trucks and business operators. Businesses need to be registered in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area (LGA), and the waste generated in the Blue Mountains LGA, to continue to use the facility during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council is still providing its household waste service, as normal. This includes the:
Garbage collection every week (140 litre bin) – RED garbage bin. Recycling collection every two weeks (240 litre bin) – YELLOW recycling bin. Green waste collection every two weeks (240 litre bin) – GREEN garden bin.“The two additional Booked Waste Services during COVID-19 will assist those residents that have additional waste needs, while our Waste Management Facilities are closed to our residents,” Mayor Greenhill said.
“I appreciate the community’s patience during this period. Our staff are committed to continuing to provide essential services to the community while following Public Health Orders issued by the State Government.”
