Liverpool City Council’s 20-year planning vision has been given the green light by the Greater Sydney Commission.

“Connected Liverpool 2040, Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS), represents the shared vision of Council and the community and will inform the city’s future land use planning,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“It will guide development in Liverpool for the next 20 years, balancing the need for housing, jobs and services as well as parks, community facilities and the natural environment to ensure our city remains liveable for generations to come.”

Connected Liverpool 2040 was endorsed by Councillors in March and it has since been supported by the Greater Sydney Commission.

“We were delighted by the overwhelmingly positive response from the community, so a huge thank you goes out to all who had their say,” Mayor Waller said.

“We received close to 150 formal submissions and thousands of survey responses and ideas of what people would like to see for Liverpool in the future, ranging from additional bike lanes to new community spaces.

“Some clear themes that came out of our community engagement – such as the desire for more green spaces and parking, better streets and public transport – have been cemented in Connected Liverpool 2040 under a list of 16 priorities and corresponding actions.

“Now with the Greater Sydney Commission’s tick of approval it’s time to get on with our key priorities to maintain and enhance the great qualities of Liverpool that make it such a wonderful place to live, work, study and visit.

“Even in these uncertain times, Council will continue to provide essential services and plan ahead for the future of our growing city.”

Every council in NSW was required to develop an LSPS. All LSPS documents can be viewed on the NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s e-planning portal.
