Speak up, be involved, get connected, and have fun! Zoe Morgan says that’s this year’s Youth Week theme and she reckons it’s the right fit as celebrating the talents and achievements of the shire’s young people moves online.

The youth development coordinator wants Eurobodalla’s youth to ‘get involved’ with an Instagram video competition, ‘get connected’ at the Coping with COVID forum, and ‘speak up’ in a survey designed to guide bushfire recovery volunteering in the shire.

“With everyone practicing social isolation, how fortunate we can all still come together online.” Ms Morgan said.

“Young people in particular know how to navigate and connect across the plethora of digital platforms, so Council’s youth team have pulled together some shire-wide online offerings. Whether they try one or try them all, there’s bound to be fun along the way.

“We’ve got cash prizes up for grabs in our Instagram competition. Choose a theme; cooking, coping, or having fun. Then create and post a short video to the eurobodalla_youth Insta page, with the chance to win one of six $200 prizes.

Ms Morgan said the online youth forum Coping with Covid was a place for young people to share hopes, frustrations and ways to have fun.

“The event will use Zoom and is hosted by Council’s youth development officer Mark Ettridgeand provides young people with a space to hang out and chat with others.”

“It’s on today from 4.30pm, so you’ll need to get in quick to register.”

Ms Morgan also encouraged the shire’s youth to do a quick online survey.

“We were involved in a remarkable youth forum earlier this year, where participants told us – loud and clear – they wanted to assist in bushfire recovery,” Ms Morgan said.

“Of course, coronavirus has made that a little more difficult, so now we’re asking young people about new ways they want to help, with a view to developing a guide to volunteering in Eurobodalla. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and will give us an idea of the type of activities our youth are keen to participate in.”
