With the Livingstone polls now declared the new Livingstone Shire Council today conducted its Declaration of Office meeting where Mayor Andy Ireland and the six elected Councillors were officially sworn in.

The six Councillors are re-elected members Glenda Mather, Nigel Hutton, Pat Eastwood and Adam Belot, who are joined by newly elected members Tanya Lynch and Andrea Friend.

While it is Mayor Ireland’s first time in the role of Mayor for Livingstone, it is not his first time in a leadership role within the organisation, having served as CEO in 2014 and Director in 2013.

Mayor Ireland said while COVID-19 presented a new host of challenges for the organisation and the community, he was confident the newly appointed team would make some positive change at the Council table.

“Livingstone is a very interested and passionate community, which is what I recall from my days as Council CEO and has also been prominent in my recent discussions and visits with members of this wonderful community,” Mayor Ireland said.

“There are many great ideas and suggestions that have been put forward during my visits to different localities and it is my intention that community members have an opportunity to have them heard and considered by Council.

“As we look forward to the term ahead, Council as a collective will consider all options available to assist the community and local business sector to help manage the challenges as a result of COVID-19.

“We must not forget that we are all in this together and we will come out of this a stronger, more resilient community.

“In the meantime, Council would also like to reassure the community that it is still business as usual for the organisation in its delivery of services such waste, water and roads, while always striving to improve and streamline operations.

“Establishing relationships with all of the Councillors, the wider Council organisation as well as other levels of Government and neighbouring Councils also remains a priority,” Mayor Ireland said.
