Snowy Monaro Regional Council (SMRC) has announced the appointments of three senior managers who will head up its new leadership team.

As part of a major organisational review and redesign initiative, the new management structure comprises of five key and strategic focused positions approved by Council last November.

Following a thorough recruitment process, the three appointments include Chief Operating Officer, Chief Communications Officer, and Chief Strategic Officer, who will commence their roles on 20 April.

Mr Rawlings has extensive experience in local government holding previous general manager positions at Kempsey and Bombala councils, as well as filling senior executive roles covering corporate management and strategic planning.

Jeff Morgan is an internationally experienced project and operations manager and has been appointed Chief Operating Officer.

Mr Morgan has held several overseas-based roles with infrastructure and engineering consultancy firm SMEC International, whose origins date back to the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme. Chief Executive Officer Peter Bascomb said SMRC was delighted to attract such high quality candidates. “We have embarked on a major organisational redesign with the vision to significantly improve our overall operations and delivery of services, and I am confident we have selected the right expertise and experience to help make that happen,” Mr Bascomb said.

“SMRC is committed to becoming more flexible and effective across our internal functions so that, in turn, we can better meet and exceed the expectations of the communities we serve”.

Recruitment for the roles of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Workforce Officer is continuing and when completed will finalise SMRC’s new senior leadership team.

“Given the current COVID-19 situation, and subsequent changes to workplaces and future operations, these are timely appointments and represent a major step forward in creating an organisation with the resources and capability needed to ensure a sustainable future.”
