Burnie City Council 15 Apr 2020
Domestic green waste services suspended

Published on 15 April 2020

Dropping off your green waste to our waste management centre is not considered essential at this time.

We support the Premier’s intensive measures to restrain the circulation of people in the north-west community in managing the outbreak of COVID-19.

The message is clear:  STAY HOME – SAVE LIVES.  Do not leave home for non-essential reasons.

Council will be strictly enforcing the NO DOMESTIC GREEN WASTE restrictions at the Waste Management Centre.

Businesses (e.g. gardeners, landscapers) may continue to dispose of green waste generated from their business operations. Proof of business i.e. vehicle signage, business card, uniform will be required for entry.  Other businesses or contractors whose primary business is not providing gardening or landscaping services who want to drop off green waste will be questioned about the origin of the load and may not be admitted to site if it is suspected the load is of a domestic origin.

Please - do not leave the municipality to take your green waste to neighbouring council area waste disposal sites - you will not be granted entry and police will not consider your journey as essential.

Residents can still take their domestic waste to the Burnie Waste Management Centre but only if absolutely necessary.  Residents are asked to reduce their household and green waste as much as possible during this time.  This is no longer an opportunity for yard and garden clean-ups.

Please see our website for further information the Burnie Waste Management Centre.
