Kangaroo Lake boat ramp pontoon closed

Residents and visitors are advised that the boat ramp pontoon located at the northern end of Kangaroo Lake is closed until further notice.

Installed early last decade, the pontoon was deemed to be unsafe for use earlier this month and removed earlier this week.

“As part of a regular inspection regime, Shire staff have determined that the Kangaroo Lake boat ramp and fishing pontoon are unsafe for use and closed this structure to protect the safety of users,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“This structure suffered further damage following the strong winds that occurred during the Easter long weekend.

“Consideration will be given to the construction of a replacement structure that is more suitable and appropriate for the conditions and environment at Kangaroo Lake.”

Alternative boating facilities are available at Gorton Point, located at the southwestern end of Kangaroo Lake.

“Residents and visitors are reminded that as part of efforts to stop the spread of Coronavirus, Goulburn-Murray Water has closed access to Kangaroo Lake until further notice,” Mr O’Reilly said.
