In line with the decision made by RSL Queensland in relation to COVID-19, the Central Highlands Regional Council is no longer holding its annual ANZAC Day services across the region.
Cancelled services include Bauhinia, Blackwater, Bluff, Capella, Dingo, Duaringa, Emerald, the Gemfields, Rolleston, Springsure and Tieri.
Central Highlands Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Scott Mason said he understood the disappointment these cancellations would cause among the community, but they had been cancelled in the interest of public safety.
‘To honour all Australians and New Zealanders lost in armed conflicts, RSL Queensland has suggested all Australians stand at the end of their driveways at 6.00 am on ANZAC Day to observe one minute’s silence,’ Mr Mason said.
‘If Federal and State Government restrictions and guidelines allow on the day, we welcome people across the Central Highlands to be part of this.’
People are also invited to tune into the ANZAC Day dawn service being held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
It will be broadcast on live television across Australia by the ABC and streamed online at www.abc.net.au from 5.30 am.
