“For the week ending 17 April, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.
“Within the urban Lithgow area couple of weeks, Council staff have focused their efforts on priority repairs throughout the urban Lithgow area,” said Mayor Thompson. “To ensure continuity of water services throughout the area, mains have been repaired at Railway Parade, Great Western Highway and Tweed Road with services also being repaired at Bridge Street. Alongside this work, Council has made improvements to stormwater infrastructure at the intersection of Bridge Street and Main Street, as well as along the length of Hartley Vale Road and Hartley Valley Road. Scheduled road reserve improvements have also occurred along Hartley Valley Road and Lithgow Street with the installation of new kerb and gutter as well as jersey barriers to improve stormwater flow and reduce unwanted truck movements in the area.”
“In the last week Council’s rural works staff have worked towards the maintenance and repair of a number of sealed and unsealed road assets,” noted Mayor Thompson. “Bitumen seal repairs have been conducted on Main Street, Wallerawang, Pipers Flat Road, Sunny Corner Road, Hartley Valley Road and Sofala Street, Portland. On top of this, Council’s unsealed road improvements have been ongoing with Glen Alice Road, Cox – Green Street Lane (Portland), Red Hill Road and Palmers Oakey Road.”
“I am pleased to announce that this week, two major capital improvement projects will be completed,” said Mayor Thompson. “Since January, Lithgow Council has been managing the clearing of damaged trees and loose debris from the Wolgan Gap rockfaces and embankments. It has been quite some time since this work was last completed and as such, the project was extensive with contractors abseiling from the rockfaces to effectively complete the work. Assessments of the relative risk of both Wolgan Gap and Macauley/Sandford slopes is also ongoing with results to be received in the coming weeks. Further to this, works have commenced on the asphalt reseal of Bridge Street, Lithgow. As the underlying water main construction and settling is complete, contractors are able to commence road surface renewals. This work is expected to be ongoing over three nights, with one night already completed. I am certain that completion of this project in particular is highly anticipated by the Lithgow community.”
