Burnie Waste team do their bit to reinforce #StayHomeSaveLives message

Burnie City Council staff are doing their bit to support the Premier’s intensive measures to restrain the circulation of people in the north-west community in managing the outbreak of COVID-19.

Burnie City Council Mayor Steve Kons said “we are a committed member of the NW Regional Emergency Management Committee and Regional Emergency coordination centre and it is important that we do everything we can to support the governments measures.

“Credit must go to our depot staff who came up with idea of putting the #StayHomeSaveLives message on our garbage trucks. The trucks travel around our municipality and are highly visible, the message to our community is a simple reminder think of your family, friends and the vulnerable and stay at home.

“Council have also temporarily ceased accepting green waste at our waste management centre from residential customers, going out into the community to drop off green waste is not considered essential at this time.

“We are taking the health of our region absolutely seriously, and urge all in our community to follow suit during this critical fortnight: please stay at home. As a Council, it is important that we are part of setting the example and supporting the enormous effort that is going into managing this outbreak.”
