The Shire’s planning team have redeployed human resources away from non-critical tasks to assist with fast tracking planning and building applications.
In an effort to support the local building industry, Planning and Development Services Acting Manager, Matt Cuthbert said the initiative aims to continue providing jobs and income for Shire residents.
“The intent is to ensure that where projects can safely proceed within the limitations created by COVID-19, that they are not held up pending Shire approval”, Mr Cuthbert said.
“Ensuring key developments across the Shire are fast tracked, where possible, means livelihoods are sustained and more jobs are created.
“Keeping businesses open and supporting our economy during the pandemic will place the community in a better financial position once we get back on track.”
Shire planners are also assisting businesses who want to temporarily change their practices to respond to the pandemic without unnecessary red tape.
“We understand business models may need to be altered to adapt to the changing landscape at this time.”
Whilst face to face meetings are not currently possible the Shire’s planning and building staff can be safely contacted via phone and email.
