If you’re spending more time at home because of COVID-19 restrictions, why not get out in the garden and take advantage of the City of Fremantle’s upcoming green waste verge collection?
The green waste pick-up for residents in Area A - which includes all City of Fremantle properties north of South Street - will start from Tuesday 28 April.
Residents in Area B – all properties south of South Street – will have their green waste collected from Monday 4 May.
The City will collect a maximum of two trailer loads or two cubic metres of green waste from each property, including tree trunks, branches and prunings up to 1.5 metres in length and 30 centimetres in diameter.
Green waste can be placed on the verge up to two days before the collection date.
Residents are asked to place their waste on the verge as neatly as possible, away from walls, fences, power poles and trees and ensuring it doesn’t obstruct footpaths, driveways and sprinklers.
Piles of leaves and grass clippings won’t be collected, but these can be put into your green-lidded FOGO bin.
Other items that won’t be collected include general rubbish, dug out lawn, weeds, roots, and sand or soil.
All of the green waste collected will be taken to the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council’s Regional Resource Recovery Centre in Canning Vale and processed into mulch.
The City of Fremantle also offers free mulch for residents to pick up from the Fremantle Recycling Centre. The Recycling Centre on Montreal Street is currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, but free mulch will be available once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and the centre is reopened.
