Kitchen removal provides more gallery space

Published: 22 Apr 2020

Council has endorsed a revised design proposal to remove a commercial kitchen to create more gallery space as part of the Cairns Courthouse Refurbishment Project.

The commercial kitchen was installed in the barristers/bailiffs room by the previous owner and was to be retained.

Under further review, it was decided that a pop-up kitchen would better serve the precinct, allowing restaurants and cafes to cater for events held at the facility.

The removal of the kitchen will also add greater value to the project by providing additional gallery space and assist in restoring the building closer to the original design.
