Flags will recognise First Peoples

Published: 22 Apr 2020

The Australian Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander flags are to hang inside the Council Chamber in recognition of our First Peoples.

The Australian national flag will be flown on the left, the Australian Aboriginal flag in the centre and Torres Strait Islander flag on the right under the newly endorsed configuration, which is in accordance with national protocols.

The Chair of Council’s First People’s Advisory Committee, David Hudson, was consulted and supported the change, which allows Council and the community to recognise First Peoples in a prominent and public fashion.
