NSW Government Media Release 21 April 2020
Median strips, wider roads and increased signage are among the suite of safety works now under way at two intersections and three bus stops as part of the Barton Highway upgrade.
Senator for NSW Jim Molan said work on the Barton Highway intersections of Gooda Creek Road and Vallencia Drive started last month, and would improve the safety and traffic flow onto the highway once completed.
“Safety is a significant issue for residents and commuters, and the intersection improvements at Gooda Creek Road and Vallencia Drive will make access from local roads to the Barton Highway safer for everyone,” Senator Molan said.
“The upgrade includes improving lanes for slowing down, building concrete median strips, widening the road, installing safety barrier and upgrading line marking, drains and signs.”
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the three bus stop improvements would also improve safety for residents, particularly school children.
“A new bus stop will be built at Vallencia Drive to replace the current stop, while two other bus stops at Gooda Creek Road and Euroka Avenue will be built, to replace existing stops on the Barton Highway,” Ms Tuckerman said.
“By removing the stops from the Barton Highway, children will have a safe place to wait for the school bus and parents will have a safe place to drop off and pick up their kids.
“This part of the project includes building off-road turning circles for buses, and installing modern bus shelters to provide all weather protection for waiting passengers.”
The NSW Government is funding the $2.4 million works as part of its $50 million commitment to the Barton Highway upgrade, which is being matched by the Federal Government over four years.Work is expected to be completed in June 2020, weather permitting.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place while work takes place between 9.30am and 3pm on weekdays, including reduced speed limits of 60 km/h in place 24 hours a day and lane closures.
Motorists are advised to expect delays of between five and 10 minutes during this time.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
