Byron Shire Council has thrown its support behind two community initiatives that have emerged to see local businesses and residents through the changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Simon Richardson said Byron Shire was well regarded for its creativity and this was evident by the different ways people have responded to the community safety measures that are now in place.

“When there are so many uncertainties in our lives some inspirational people in our community are tacking things head on and I am really pleased that Council is able to make a small contribution to these online initiatives,” Mayor Richardson said.

Council contributed funds for the purchase of the domain name for the Byron Shire Online Business Directory (www.byronshireonline.com.au/) which is being run by community members and serves two purposes.

It is a place where people can register their businesses or service and it is also an easy way for others to see how they can support local businesses.

Council is also supporting www.resilientbyron.org  – an association that has been created to build the resilience of Byron Shire residents.

“I am hoping residents and businesses will support both these initiatives which have been born out of love for our community for the benefit of our community,” Mayor Richardson said.
