ANZAC Day 2020 Message Mayor Christina HolmdahlEvery year on ANZAC Day, as a nation, we commemorate the most solemn of our national days.
From the smallest communities to the largest of our cities we come together to remember the mateship that was forged in the face of adversity, on the beach at Gallipoli.
Tomorrow we will not be attending Dawn Services and the ANZAC Day Morning Services as we normally do, because they have been cancelled in keeping with COVID-19 requirements.
Instead we are being urged to commemorate the day in our own contemplative ways.
You will have noticed that our communities have well and truly responded, determined to show that they will remember with gratitude the men and women who have fought in all the theatres of war under the Australian flag.
Poppies are already displayed on front fences, candles will be lit at dawn and 'The Last Post', played by local muscicians, will echo throughout our streets.
Tomorrow morning I will be at the bottom of my drive, lighting candles with my neighbours.
Whichever way each and every one of us commemorates this year’s ANZAC Day, we will do so to remember the sacrifices made by those that have served our nation with honour and paid the ultimate price, so that we could live in peace.
Lest We Forget
