These school holidays are certainly different to any others that we have experienced before, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun.

To help keep you and your family safe, we have a number of fun activities that you can do with your kids at home.

Our Coastal Environment staff have been busy creating some videos showing activities that you and your kids can do together, with an environmental or scientific twist.

Learn how to make your garden more habitat-friendly by making a possum drey. These cosy little possum homes are super easy to make with a couple of hanging baskets or plant pots. Just make sure you put them high enough up a tree away from pesky predators!

We also have a cool way to remind your children why washing their hands is so important to their health – essential in our current climate. This easy experiment uses bread that morphs into a funky mould factory. Your kids will love it!

Another great skill that your kids can learn is the art of making beeswax wraps. With simple-to-follow instructions, they will learn an alternative to using single-use plastic wrap that will also help to keep our oceans plastic free.

Does your child have an artistic bent? Manly Art Gallery & Museum is offering a couple of learning activities online based on some of their more famous paintings. Why not check to see if there is a budding Picasso in your midst?

Our libraries also have many online resources to keep little minds busy, including favourite stories read aloud by Australian and New Zealand storytellers and a heap of educational games.

We are also bringing our library straight to you, with our new Library2U service. If there is a particular book you or your kids would like to read, or a TV series they're itching to watch? Place a reservation through our catalogue and we will deliver it straight to your doorstep.
