Blue Mountains City Council has announced that a phased reopening of both Blaxland and Katoomba Waste Management Facilities will begin from Thursday 30 April.
Both facilities will be open to residents between 8am – 4.45pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. To ensure the safety of staff and the community, strict restrictions will apply, including:
Only four vehicles will be allowed on site at any one time. A maximum of two people will be allowed in each vehicle. Only one person is allowed in the Community Recycling Centre area (at the Katoomba facility) at a time. Payment via tap-and-go or EFTPOS is preferable. Residents must follow all instructions issued by onsite staff. Residents who are unwell with any cold or flu like symptoms, or have been in contact with someone who may have contracted COVID-19, should not attend the facilities. The current NSW Government Public Health Order limits all travel outside of your home to essential travel. With this in mind, and to minimise queues at the Waste Management Facilities, Council is urging residents to delay any work that will generate large volumes of waste, and avoid making trips to the Waste Management Facilities unless it is essential. Blaxland Waste Management Facility will also continue to be open for normal kerbside domestic waste collections, booked bulky waste services and business contractors Mondays to Saturdays, until further notice.
The two additional free bulky waste services, offered to assist households while the facilities are temporarily closed, will continue to be valid for bookings that are scheduled for kerbside collection prior to 1 July 2020.
Council is also offering two additional free bulky waste collection services, which are available to all households until 1 July 2020. Go to https://www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/BookedWasteService for more information.
