There’s still time for young people in our region to join Mildura Rural City Council’s FReeZA Youth-Led Crew.
The Youth-Led Crew organises and develops events, projects and initiatives for other youth across our region, as well as offering a host of personal development opportunities.
Whether you have an interest in film-making, gaming, photography, music or event management, there is a whole range of opportunities for young people aged 12 to 25 to explore their chosen interest.
Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Gavin Sedgmen said applications for places on the Youth-Led Crew were open until this Thursday 30 April.
Cr Sedgmen said Youth-Led Crew members had opportunities to make new friends and develop or learn new skills.
"As a Youth-Led Crew member you will be responsible for working together to organise a range of youth-focused events and initiatives throughout the year," he said.
"This could include online gaming tournaments, our annual Youth Expo, live music events, the Youth Art Prize, short film competitions and DJs in schools among a raft of activities.
"It's a great opportunity to use your skills or area of interest to create something on a much larger scale that benefits and engages young people across our region."
Cr Sedgmen said that once the make-up of the Mildura FReeZA Youth-Led Crew was decided it would immediately start work on this year's events and activities while adhering to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
"We're fortunate to have so many options to remain connected during the current pandemic, and our Youth-Led Crew will be taking full advantage of these options," he said.
"Whether it's Skype calls, Zoom meetings or through social media, our Youth-Led Crew will be able to meet, brainstorm and collaborate in the virtual word."
Cr Sedgmen said Youth-Led Crew activities would actually provide more opportunities for young people to stay connected amid the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.
