If connecting with your inner Piccasso, or belting out a tune at karaoke is your favourite creative past-time, then you should take part in a new and exciting challenge.
City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khjal Asfour today invited residents to join Bankstown Arts Centre’s Creative Communities Challenge, which encourages people to find creative ways to keep themselves busy while the community remains at home during the lockdown.
“I’d love to see people send the Bankstown Arts Centre a video of themselves dancing, or a photo, story or even a song they’ve penned,” Mayor Asfour said
“Participants will have a chance to have their work displayed in an online exhibition, and will be placed in a draw to win discounts for awesome programs held at the Centre too.
“This week I found an awesome Georges Hall family on YouTube who have taken advantage of their time together at home to get creative and produce a song,” Mayor Asfour said.
“We wanted to make something fun, but I don’t think we quite expected the song to have the impact it’s had,” father Craig Taunton said.
“We’ve been getting messages from people saying how it’s made them happy and brought them joy. I’m stoked. The more joy it brings, the better.”
Mayor Asfour said if the global quarantine has taught us anything, it’s that extraordinary things can often come out of seemingly ordinary things in life, including finding ways to be creative at home.
“The Tauntons are a great example of what we can do to help showcase what everyone is capable of bringing to the Arts Centre’s Creative Communities Challenge during this time, and help us get through this period together,” he said.
