Deadline extended to Have Your Say

​The NSW Government has decided to extend the deadline to have your say on important planning rules by 4-weeks after concerns were raised because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Mayor Khal Asfour wrote to the Planning Minister in March requesting the deferral of the Local Environment plan (LEP) to ensure proper consultation with the community.

The LEP is a single set of planning rules for Canterbury-Bankstown, and needs approval from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

“I am pleased to announce residents will have an additional four weeks to review documents and have their say on changes to planning rules for our city,” Mayor Khal Asfour said.

“Planning our city is too important for us to rush, especially given the current crisis which unfortunately meant our scheduled face to face drop-in sessions were not held to protect the health and safety of our community.

“Although it has been difficult to engage with the community like we used to, we have introduced video meetings and a dedicated phone line to ensure your feedback is heard.

“Public exhibition was due to close today, however this extension means that the community have until Friday 22 May to comment on these important plans.

“These are challenging times, but if something is unfair I will call it out; it’s not business as usual and we need to make changes to accommodate for the times.”
