Blacktown City Council’s Key Venues stay connected to the community

Like so many organisations across the world affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, Blacktown City Council closed its aquatic and leisure centres to the public in March.

During these challenging times it is more important than ever to keep active and connected. We understand how important this is for both our physical and mental state.  Council’s aquatic and leisure centres – Key Venues – have been actively keeping in touch with as many of our valued members and customers through a series of on-line videos and fun activities.

Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM is impressed to see the connection with Council is still strong within our community “Council treats the safety and wellbeing of our local community very seriously. It’s vital that we keep in touch with our community, we are all in this together and we need to stay connected”.

Each week, health and fitness members receive the latest Les Mills group exercise workout video so they can exercise at home while the gyms are closed.

Parents of students enrolled in Council’s popular ‘Aqua Learn to Swim’ program are being sent weekly emails with fun activities to do at home with the kids including water safety, colouring in and outdoor games.

Blacktown Tennis Centre Stanhope is keeping the kids practicing with fun training videos to do at home.

We are also proud to be supporting a number of our sports partners as they engage with their fans and players through the digital world. Super 6 High Performance founder, Carl Jennings has launched ‘S6HP Remote’ - an online mentoring program to support young aspiring athletes with physical development, well-being and education. AFL NSW/ACT is providing amazing AFL based activities and content to enjoy while at home. Blacktown District Soccer Football Association has ramped up its digital channels to include a weekly radio hour to ensure everyone is up to date with the latest news. Progressive Goalkeeping has updated their website with an exciting new area for players to access home training videos and planners.
