Due to the COVID-19 response City of Darwin’s enormously popular Healthy Darwin program will be delivered online.

The program has a loyal clientele and it is hoped that moving the program online will attract an even broader audience.

The Healthy Darwin program includes a range of physical recreation and healthy lifestyle activities aimed at appealing to a wide range of ability levels and interest groups. All activities are subsidised by the City of Darwin so participation in any activity costs no more than $10 per class.

The new online 2020 Dry Season Program includes Mums and Bubs Bellydance, Yogalaties and Bootcamp – all of which have had to cease group classes due to COVID-19 restrictions. Additional activities will continue to be added to the 9 week program.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said that he was delighted that both activity providers and Council staff had moved so quickly to collaborate to move the program online.

“Whilst we have had to close a number of our recreation facilities across the city to meet Australian Government guidelines in response to COVID-19, City of Darwin is continuing to deliver a wide range of activities.”

“I am really impressed at how quickly our providers and staff have been able to adapt in order to deliver these programs.”

“It is especially important during this time that people continue to maintain their fitness regimes and connections with each other.”

“We are so lucky to live in Darwin where we can continue to enjoy our outdoor lifestyle, as long as we practice social distancing measures.”
