Alexandra Bridge Campground is set to re-open from this weekend

Following the announcement from the Premier that some restrictions on public gatherings and camping have been lifted, the Shire has reviewed the State Government advice and will be re-opening the Alexandra Bridge Campground from Saturday, 2 May. Intrastate travel restrictions remain in place, so only those that reside within the South West border will be able to enjoy the facility. Shire of Augusta Margaret River Acting Manager Human and Community Services, Jason Cleary said, with visitor co-operation the re-opening of the campground will be a big win for the local community who thoroughly enjoy camping and all the social and mental health benefits it brings with it. “While we encourage local visitors to enjoy the site, we must urge the importance of remaining vigilant with social distancing and good hygiene practices”, Mr Cleary said. “The 1.5m distancing rules should be observed at all times particularly in communal areas, such as the camp kitchen and ablution block”. “This is an evolving situation and further restrictions may need to be applied if circumstances change, but we hope the community will do the right thing and make the most of the opportunity to enjoy this fabulous natural area”. A maximum of 21 camping sites are available on a first come, first served basis. No bookings will be taken, and fees are payable at the self-registration box. Camping directly along the river is not permitted. Sites and roads have been clearly designated to assist campers in locating approved camping areas. At this stage there are no plans to re-open Flinders Bay or Turner Caravan Park, however it will be reviewed as required and the community will be informed of any changes as they arise.
