Council conducts first online meeting

Council has held its first online-only Council meeting.

The Special Council Meeting at 3.30pm on Friday 1 May is understood to be the first to be held by any of the state’s 79 councils since virtual meetings were introduced.

Last week the Victorian Parliament passed a new Bill which would allow councillors to attend a Council meeting by electronic means of communication during the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic

Since the start of the pandemic, Council has been advocating strongly for the sector to have the ability to conduct meetings remotely rather than meet in person.

The first meeting of Council under the new provisions was livestreamed on Council’s website in accordance with the new regulations.
