Council undertakes footpaths survey

Published on 01 May 2020

Council is completing a condition survey of footpaths in the shire using specialised camera-equipped vehicles.

The surveys of the condition of footpaths and kerb and channel are being carried out by contractors until mid-May.

The cameras take videos and laser measurements of footpaths and kerbs. The cameras are focused on the roads and footpaths and no footage of commercial, residential, private properties or structures is taken or retained.

During the work, transporter vehicles will travel at normal traffic speeds on the road. Footpath assessment vehicles are operated by certified pavement inspectors and will travel at a brisk walking pace.

Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be active while the vehicles survey footpaths, cycle ways and shared access ways.

The surveying is part of Council’s essential work and asset management obligations and will occur with appropriate social distancing and pandemic-related guidelines in place.

These condition reports help inform Council’s annual capital works budgeting process and annual valuation of assets.

The appointed contractor Infrastructure Management Group regularly delivers this type of work for councils throughout Australia.
