Burglary foiled by Fremantle Community Safety Team

The City of Fremantle’s Community Safety Team has helped to foil a burglary on a clothing store in Fremantle’s city centre.

Just before midnight on Thursday 16 April the City’s CCTV operator noticed a man breaking into the clothing store on Market Street.

A short time later the offender was seen leaving the store with his arms full of men’s and women’s clothing and shoes, valued at more than $2000.

The man then walked down High Street Mall before hiding the stolen items near the front of the Fremantle Town Hall.

The CCTV operator notified members of the City’s Community Safety Team, who attended and made contact with the offender.

Police arrived a short time later and arrested the man. He’s been charged with burglary and stealing offences and was due to appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court today.

All of the items were recovered.

The City of Fremantle is one of only three local governments in WA to have an actively monitored CCTV network, so police can be alerted to any incidents and respond quickly.

The City’s Community Safety Team patrols the city centre and surrounding suburbs from 7am-2am on Wednesday-Saturday, and from 7am-9pm on Sunday-Tuesday.
