An online entertainment hub where residents can choose from seven channels has been launched, in a first for a Local Council in NSW.

The City of Canterbury Bankstown has set up an exclusive "digital space" which will connect the community during the Corona crisis and beyond.

Local artists and performers, along with health and fitness trainers will now be able to broadcast their video productions daily. The schedule will also include a dedicated Kids TV and Local News channels.

Mayor Khal Asfour said he was proud to launch CBTV at a time when the arts and entertainment industry were doing it tough.

"We'll be showcasing local musicians and artists each week, and broadcasting many of our services which were previously offered through our centres," he said.

"Over 3.5 million Australians working in the performing arts and recreation industry are faced with uncertainty at the moment.

"CBTV is an opportunity to give back to those continually providing much needed entertainment even when faced with times like these."

Keep Connected through CBTV is part of Mayor Asfour's 18 point commitment to providing relief and support to residents and businesses in the Canterbury-Bankstown community.

"We have set this up to keep our community socially connected and engaged during this time when social distancing is in place," Mayor Asfour said.

"It's for the whole family to enjoy. There's story-time for kids, fitness and dance classes, live music performances from home grown talent and much more.

"I encourage the entire community to join us on Facebook and subscribe to CBTV on Youtube to stay up to date with all the exciting activities we have in store."
